About This Winery
Aitzalde Txakoli is produced by Akarregi Txiki, a small winery which has been in the Eizmendi-Garrastazu family for generations. It is located in the picturesque coastal town of Getaria, in the Basque Country of Spain. Aitzalde translates into “place of stone”, aptly named for the steep vineyard which slopes down to the Atlantic Ocean.
Hondarrabi Zuri wines tend to be moderately aromatic, quite low in alcohol and high in acidity, and while occasionally blended with other varieties, both Basque and international, most Txakoli wines are single-variety.
A young white wine, Txakoli (Cha-co-li) will always be positioned in niche international markets. The varietal, Hondarrabi Zuri, produces a refreshing golden, aromatic, very dry, crisply acidic wine. The low alcohol of 11% makes it perfect for enjoying in hot weather.
Pairing Notes
Served chilled, it pairs beautifully with coastal Basque cuisine, with cheese and spicy fruit jams, as well as pork tenderloins and barbeque, grilled tuna and shellfish.
